Groundwork was a three year project, bringing exceptional international art and artists to Cornwall and culminating in a five month season of exhibitions and events in 2018. Josie Cockram, Lecturer in Contemporary Art and Curation, leads professional practice lectures, seminars and workshops. This strand of the course equips students with the practical production skills they need to make contemporary art happen, and to engage audiences across all our communities.
Arts & Business NI knows that when business and the arts work together in truly mutual partnership, both become stronger. During this (one-year full time/ two-year part time) level 6 course, you will be supported to navigate the extensive range of careers in the creative and cultural sectors. The course will support you to develop the professional skills needed to pursue your ambitions, and the intellectual and critical skills to challenge existing structures, in order to innovate for the future. In your second and third years, you will also take ‘Professional Practice for Art and Design History’. These courses look at theoretical approaches to museology, as well as more practical considerations such as conservation, exhibition planning and design, curatorial practices and educational activities.

You’ll take part in a group project where you’ll apply your entrepreneurial and creative expertise and develop your collaboration skills, essential for the creative industries. You can tailor this project to your own interests, such as writing a business portfolio, developing a screen, stage or interactive project or completing a dissertation. There will be essential sessions on how to design and develop your research, and you’ll have one to one supervision with an academic or industry specialist throughout your project.
